A personal message from Fiona and Tim

First of all thank you for your messages, warm wishes and continued support, we really appreciate it. These are unknown and difficult times for us all, especially so for all those connected with the travel and hospitality industry during this Coronavirus pandemic.

Whilst the North York Moors with it’s wide open spaces and fresh air are undoubtedly one of the better places to be at the moment our first concern has to be for the welfare of our guests and ourselves and we will be constantly reassessing things. At this stage and as long as we feel we can offer a safe environment we believe each individual needs to make there own mind up whether to travel and we shall be here to welcome you if you wish. You can even look to book us on an exclusive basis, with no increased rate, see details below. To be completely honest as a small family business on a practical and financial level we simply have to stay open unless the government decide to formally close businesses.

Comment from the area in general is very much that places are staying open, the wide open spaces and fresh air of the North York Moors is as beautiful as it has always been and a ray of sunshine in these bleak times.

As travel has not been banned we do not know if insurers are still quoting any decision not to take up a holiday as a ‘disinclination to travel’. It is very confusing for all of us. And we would suggest you check your travel insurance in the first instance.

We do want to let you know that take both your and our own health and wellbeing very seriously so we have made a few tweaks. We’ve stopped handshakes and hugs, but you will still get the same super warm welcome and Tim’s sense of humour and sarcasm is as sharp as ever! And of course Florence is still on hand for as many loves and hugs as she can get!

If you have stayed with us previously you will know that we take cleaning the B&B very seriously, we always use the best and professional cleaning products. But we are taking extra special care to ensure things like switches, handles, remote controls, all touch areas etc have an extra clean and some more. All our laundry, bed linen and towels are professionally cleaned and all crockery and cutlery is washed at high temperatures in a dishwasher.

If you have any special requests for during your visit just let us know, if we can do it we will. For example if you would like to arrange a special check in time so it’s just you arriving or if you would prefer a breakfast at a staggered time or a breakfast tray in your room rather than using the dining room just speak to us about it. We have even teamed up with our local, The Inn on the Moor to arrange takeaway bar meals and your favourite tipple too to enjoy at Eighteen97 if you so wish.

We know that you will want to continue to support us as a small business through this tricky time as well as and all our small, hand picked local suppliers , like Chris our egg man, R&J our family butcher, Elspeth at Rosebud who makes the best strawberry jam in the world and our family run local hostelries and shops.

But we do realise some of you will feel it’s better for you not to travel at the moment. All we ask is please don’t cancel just postpone your stay if you can’t come soon as originally planned. If you are able to claim on your travel insurance do let us know and we will provide any supporting documents you need.  But most of all and despite the immense financial and emotional strain this situation is causing us on a personal level Tim and I value your continued custom and support. We want to help as much as we can and so in spite of our standard published cancellation terms, we will try and be as accommodating as possible and carry deposits and payments forward to the end of 2020 to allow you to book again and come and enjoy Eighteen97 and the North York Moors in the near future.

So, please do keep booking, or buy a gift voucher to give someone something to look forward to, even if it’s for later in the year, as we would love to see you and really value your support and being totally honest we are relying on your loyal custom at this difficult time to get us through. We really still want to be here when it is all over. We’re doing everything we can to create a clean and safe environment for you at Eighteen97.

Don’t forget, this period of uncertainty will pass, and everything will return to normal so we hope to welcome you to Eighteen97 and the beautiful North York Moors very soon. In the meantime if you have any queries or questions please do call us on 01947 896 317 or email us at [email protected]

Take care and love to you all
Fiona, Tim and Florence x
